Welcome to the world of spring! We have witnessed seeing all trees and flowers blooming. We have also started to feel the gentleness warmth of the sun.
We would like to welcome Alice Lang Silveria and her family for joining Karori Kids this month.

Activities
1.Happy Mid-Autumn festival
On Friday, the 29th of September- we celebrated Mid-autumn festival at Karori Kids. Regan, who is originally from China, led the programme on that day. According to Regan, mid-autumn is a commemoration of Chang'e's sacrifice and contribution to Whanau, every generation in China. They hold family reunion, look up at the full moon, and eat mooncakes on this special day.
2. Teamwork, cooperation, responsibility
These learning dispositions were experienced when we bought new sand for our sandpit. Our tamariki made a great contribution to Karori Kids. They worked together to transport the sand to sandpit. Ka Pai to everyone!
3. Looking after Papatuanuku
3a. Reena who just recently attended her Marae visit in September, learnt some useful tips about looking after bees. One day, there was a tired bee landed in our Centre and was offered honey with water which had helped the bee got her energy back.
Atawhai/kindness/caring towards the bee while being curious how to help it fly was learnt on that day.
3b. Composting Kaitiaki
Lorraine from WCC zero waste education came to teach our tamariki and kaiako about compost and worm farms. At Karori Kids we have been working hard to be as sustainable as we can be, composting, recycling and reusing all that we can. Yet still we want to do more! Lorraine took a kaupapa Māori perspective of kaitiakitanga for Papatūānuku; reducing our rubbish to show our care and love for our earth, not covering her up with rubbish and making her sick.
4.Visit to Karori Kids Library
We have also to started to visit the library again. The children continue to show excitement whenever we go to the library. This is a good opportunity to extend children’s interest about books and also enhancing Te reo Maori.
5. Thunderbirds programme
We continue to prepare our tamariki in getting ready them for school. The topics that were discussed for the past few weeks includes instilling sense of responsibility particularly in looking after mother earth, enhancing literacy and numeracy, talking about who they are, “ko wai au.”

Internal Evaluation
Internal evaluation update: “How effectively are we in providing an inclusive environment that sustains the languages, cultures and identities of our akonga?”
Gina has now formulated a plan which will be discussed this with the team on our Teacher’s Only Day. Please see our previous Centre’s manager’s report about the plan.
Workshops/Seminars
Gina attended a networking about “Leading Teams and Trust” via zoom.
Tracy, Regan and Reena will be attending two incoming workshops on Autism and Te Kōrerorero in October and November.
Tracy will be attending a professional development on “Strengthening bicultural leadership.
This professional development assists our kaiako in developing their Professional growth journey which in the end enhances teachers’ practices.

Illnesses
We still have had a number of illnesses for the month. This is due to flu, tummy bug and other respiratory illnesses.
We thank our families for keeping their child/ren home when unwell.
We also would like to thank our families for keeping us inform when their child is going to be away on that day.
6-hours attendance agreement
Please make sure that your child attends at least 6 hours a day. This is to ensure consistency of educational experience and obtain a comprehensive learning and engagement in our curriculum. This is also not to mention it is compliance with the 6 hour agreement within the Centre.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone especially for the huge effort of the committee for providing continuous support for achieving better quality care and education for our tamariki.
